Homo Homini Lupus (or more accurately: homo homini lupus est), is a latin proverb. In my understanding it means that
humankind is its own greatest predator.
And I didn’t say ‘enemy’ for a reason: there is no honour or code of conduct -as far as I can perceive- on display here. And by God, we have just proved ourselves once again, when one neighbour (with shared slavic origin and Christian Orthodox religion at that!) attacked another, breaking ties and breaking rules at so many levels that I can’t comprehend.
Originally, the works in this show were to explore the relation -and balance- between ‘meaningful’, ‘simplified’ and ‘incomprehensible’, but recent events dictated a very different angle. The new works shown are focused on the ‘incomprehensible’ in relation to the raging war in Ukraine - a very different take. I hope that this deviation won’t deter anyone from visiting.
Alongside these newest paintings, I am also displaying a selection from the last couple of years’ “crop”.
